Bringin' Back Bell Sleeves

So I decided to continue with the 70's theme and did a very iconic look. The whole time I was picturing Stevie Nicks twirling and fanning out her arms to reveal fantastic chiffon bell sleeves (I need bigger sleeves!)

As much as I love the bohemian look, I've never felt that it's entirely my style so I've tried to counteract this by keeping a grunge/alternative feel.

Fashion is an important creative outlet for me and so Stevie Nick's expressive clothing has always resonated with me. Stevie Nicks suffered with stage fright during her early career. She believes her fashion choices are responsible for helping her to overcome this and in turn they also developed her empowered, elegant rock star persona. I have always loved rock music but I can't escape the fact that so many iconic rock songs promote deeply sexist messages. Particularly in classic rock, women are negatively represented and scapegoated for the problems and shortcomings of men. Rock music is sadly another aspect of society that propagates sexism. In spite of this, Stevie Nicks overcame this male dominated world, became a powerful front woman and provided us with songs that positively portrayed women and still inspire female artists today.

Stevie Nicks has also impacted the fashion world. In the late 1990's designer Anna Sui created a fashion line that was inspired by Stevie Nicks, and has inspired handkerchief hems in her collections since. I've recently been admiring clothes on a website called Gypsy Moon that specialises in romantic vintage clothing. (I now really want a top hat!).

Anyway I shall leave you with this so you can see her in all her glory...
